Way of Transformation
Lesson 21 - a synopsis:
A key theme of this lesson is Allowance.
In this life-transforming lesson, Jeshua tell us that all our suffering arises as a result of our resistance to Reality. And what is that Reality (with capital "R")? That we are eternal, that we are One with God, that events are neutral and have only the meaning we give them, that our perceptions create our reality, that nothing of this world can ever diminish or add anything to our magnificence… that we ARE Love, and that only love is Real.
You may wonder why this is a life-transforming lesson… If we simply let go of our attachment to the meaning that we give things/events in our lives, we would abide in perfect acceptance of all that is and we would face less conflicts and challenges. But we insist on believing that there is something wrong with us, that we must do something to change ourselves so God will love us, when in truth, we are perfect exactly as we are. What's more, God ALREADY loves us! So, in truth, we need to do, change or heal absolutely nothing! It is only our attempts to create a reality that is different from the one God has created that brings us into conflict, creating a state that Jeshua calls "insanity."
The only way to become "right minded" is to "become willing to be one who cultivates the ability to allow all things. For [only] the mind that is free can do this." I call that "saying yes to 'isness'." And while this sounds simple, it's very difficult to do because our ego has us convinced that we must become something other than we are (read that to mean "better") to please God. We are convinced we are right about this and we have a survival grip around this perception — e.g. if we fail, God will punish us or we will die.
Jeshua is a master at bringing together concepts he has covered in the past and this lesson is no different. He says that when the desire to have only God is big/strong enough, we will simply allow the world to be as it is. The cool part comes next… When through our desire we enter into the state of allowance, the result is total surrender — the acceptance that God and the Holy Spirit will work through us to heal our perceptions and we need to do absolutely nothing.
Jeshua says that allowance is the same as forgiveness because when we judge the way things are (and consequently resist them), we are stepping out of Love and proclaiming that things are not neutral, that they have power over us (to hurt us), which is the same thing as saying that God has lied to us and that we (or our ego) know better. This brings us out of God’s Reality into a reality (with small "r"), which is ruled by fear. Thus, the only way back to God is to relinquish our judgment and of the way things are, and accept that nothing of this world can have any impact on who we are. This is the highest form of forgiveness.
This lesson has numerous metaphors and ways to describe the meaning of allowance. For example, allowance is the doorway through which we (as Christ) must go through in order to remember that we are Christ. Another one is: "…when you have come to allow all things, to trust all things, you will have embraced all things. And only that one who is larger than the thing which is embraced can do the embracing. Therefore, whenever you feel imprisoned (by the things that happen to you), it is because you have made yourself smaller than the world you perceive.” Now, that’s powerful and acts as a reminder that we are the creators of our reality and can change how we perceive it! But my very favorite is the simplest one: "Allowance is the dissolution of fear. Allowance is transformation."
Jeshua’s point of getting us to understand the power of allowance is so we can see that it ultimately allows us to free our Self. And this will inevitably lead to an understanding that everything that happens in our world is an opportunity for purification and transformation. So the less we resist, the more easily life flows through us and the faster we can bring in the Holy Spirit, who will become our companion and hold our hand throughout our journey.
One of the most important statements of this lesson is: "many in your world seek to find a spirituality that will free them of the world of their experience, never even realizing that that very attitude is the one thing that chains them, imprisons them in their hell." This simply reminds us that we are spiritual beings having a human/physical experience. Unless we are willing to embrace our humanity (read that to mean the world with all its challenges, annoyances, shortcomings and our own reactions to them—annoyance, anger, etc.) We cannot become enlightened, for one who is enlightened knows that the world is what it is; that we are simply abiding in it temporarily; and that nothing of this world (or anything we think, feel or do) can diminish or hurt us/anyone else in any way. Ultimately, as Jeshua says, "all suffering is the resistance of Reality. All awakening and healing is the letting go of resistance." Or, stated more simply and as powerfully, "resistance is of the ego; embracing is of Christ."
Please note the two exercises below.
Exercise 1
For the next month, reflect on each one of the statements Jeshua gave us. He calls this a process of deliberate purification, which means you will examine your perceptions and, if you desire it, you release them and choose anew.
Each day, read one of the statements and reflect on what it brings up in your mind. Juxtapose what the statement says to your own perception of reality. And then, simply choose to release your perception and accept that you can choose anew and that you can allow yourself to accept the Truth — for each statement is a Truth about God’s Reality. And be prepared to find some resistance because you will probably be able to come up with lots of examples of how the statement is not true, for the ego will give you plenty of ammunition to fight God’s Truths. Don’t worry! Go through the process each day and simply allow God and the Holy Spirit to heal your attachment to your perceptions.
Here are the Truths:
It is not possible for you to be without Love.
It is not possible for you to be alone.
It is not possible for you to taste death.
It is not possible for you to taste genuine loss.
It is not possible for you to suffer the dream of separation.
It is not possible for you to be apart from your Creator.
It is not possible for you to fail.
It is not possible for you to harm anyone or anything.
It is not possible for you to be guilty of sin.
It is very important that you write down what comes up in your mind as you go through this exercise and that you are totally honest. If you cannot accept the statement, fully admit it and allow yourself to go through the process without judging yourself. And when you are ready, say within your mind: "This is the Truth about me. And I want only THE Truth."
Exercise 2
Jeshua wants us to cultivate the grace of allowing. How? As you go through your day and do all kinds of mundane tasks or encounter natural occurrences or events, allow things to be as they are. For instance, when you open the hot water faucet, say that you allow the water to become warmer; or when you cook your food, you can say you are allowing the ingredients to become mixed and cooked. As Jeshua says, these changes will happen anyway, but it is fun to go through the process — even allowing the rain to fall! This exercise seeks to shift your perception by bringing into your everyday activities the power of observation and presence by bringing your awareness to small things and allowing them to be as they are.
Have fun with these two exercises!
